Racine, Wisconsin, is a 2019 Smart Cities Readiness Challenge winner and Smart Cities Council partners have the opportunity to participate in the city’s Readiness Workshop in September, 2019. Partners may attend the workshop on a space available basis. Also, based on their expertise, partners may have opportunities to present relevant case studies or serve as subject matter experts during breakout sessions.
Racine has completed a number of smart cities projects over the past two years, including the expansion of its fiber optic network, which now stretches 27.5 miles. The post-industrial city is investing in smart cities efforts as part of its redevelopment efforts. It’s making a strong commitment by, among other things, establishing an Innovation Officer position in January, 2019.
The city’s priority areas are Digital City Services, Transportation and Public Safety. These will serve as the focus areas during the Readiness Workshop with the goal being consensus building and the development of action steps.
