Itron wins Bangladesh contract: Itron will supply 8,600 prepaid gas meters to the national utility of Bangladesh, Titus Gas Transmission and Distribution Co. According to a report at, the $1.5 million project is designed to reduce billing irregularities. The Asian Development Bank is funding $1 million of the cost. Titus Gas is expected to install another 500,00 prepaid meters in the future.

Qualcomm sponsors Meeting of the Minds Hackathon: Believing mobile devices will continue to be among the most important connectivity hubs in making people's lives more efficient, productive, and safe, Council Global Partner Qualcomm is teaming with Meeting of the Minds to sponsor a hackathon Sept.  30-Oct.1. The event, which carries a $5,000 prize to the winning team, will be held in Detroit, MI.

Alstom helps launch Microgrid Alliance: The newly formed Microgrid Alliance (MGA) wants to provide a collective voice for companies and other stakeholders involved in microgrids. Council Global Partner Alstom Grid is a founding member.  "Although 'microgrid' has been somewhat of a buzzword in the energy sector for several years, it is really moving into the mainstream now," said Dan Delurey, Executive Director of the Microgrid Alliance. "The MGA is the only organization to bring together a broad group of companies working on microgrids to provide a collective voice for this sector."

Schneider unit bags vendor of year honor: APC by Schneider, the company's critical power and cooling business unit, was tapped as Power Solutions Vendor of the Year in the Choice of Channel Awards 2014 by the Vendors and Reseller (VAR) magazine. Said Thierry Chamayou, Schneider VP Middle East & Africa: "We are committed to providing cutting-edge power solutions, while delivering value to our channels on an ongoing basis. Channel business has been at the core of our operations in the Middle East and continues to help us dominate the power solutions industry.”  Schneider Electric is a Council Associate Partner.

GRID20/20 launches Campaign 500: To demonstrate that heart-of-the-grid sensing is affordable, versatile and necessary, Council Associate Partner GRID20/20 this month launched Campaign 500 in the U.S. and Canada electric utility markets. A leading provider of distribution transformer monitoring (DTM), GRID20/20 is offering a rebate program that makes its OptaNODE DTM hardware devices available for a net price of $500 each. “The global electric utility industry is truly in need of versatile intra-grid sensors, and we are going to remedy that need," Sales VP Scott Bussing said. "CAMPAIGN 500 is a serious validation to the industry of our commitment to help mitigate unnecessary losses, directly improve operating efficiencies and lower costs.”
